In this video, we will be interviewing two of our quirkiest customers who designed a sea can into a clothing store boutique using a shipping container that they bought from us! We helped them with container selection, engineering and permits, and even introduced them to our CSM and strut channel system. Aside from that, these two ladies modified this pop up shop exactly the way they wanted it. Karen and Rhonda opened their SHECan Boutique in the summer of 2019 and have been open every summer since in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. They sell a variety of clothes and accessories in their start-up retail store business. Watch this video to find out more about why they chose a sea container for their clothing shop, how they picked out and set up the shipping container, and find out how they are doing three years after opening their shop! Hope you learn something!VIDEO Purchase Container Modification World Products Featured in The Video YouTube Video Transcript
Channing: Two of my past quirkiest customers, Rhonda and Karen came to me a while back
with the crazy idea of setting up a fashion boutique in a sea can.
I pointed them in the right direction with what container to use,
assisted them with some of the engineering for permitting and approvals,
and introduced them to our CSM brackets, but aside from that, they did everything on their own.
They've been set up and running their clothing store for over three years now,
and we wanted to check it out, pay them a visit, and see how it's going.

Our channel follows us along, day-by-day as we modify containers and install accessories.
I had to come for a tour of the SHECan Boutique here in Wakaw.
I love what they've done to this container since it's left our yard.
I see they've done an amazing storefront glass. They're great stewards of our Modular Interior
System, so. They have installed everything inside this container, and have only poked
one hole in the container and that's power coming in, so.
Amazing how they've installed all of their slatwalls, their electrical,
chandeliers even. So this thing's awesome.
I'm Karen Langston, and I am one of the co-business owners of the SHECan Boutique.
We decided to open a clothing store, for the biggest reason, we love clothes. We love fashion.
We have a passion for fashion.
Rhonda: We came up with the idea purely because, we were drinking wine one night, and we decided,
you know, we wanted something to do 'cause both Karen and I are retired from SaskTel,
and we thought, you know, Waskesiu has many unique and quaint little stores, Candle Lake does.
Why not Wakaw? Why can't we do something like that here in Wakaw?
And that's really how the idea came to fruition, and uh being both retired from SaskTel,
we really miss the people. And with a passion for fashion and the people, we got it all.
Karen and I have been in business, this is our third year,
and we're always looking for something different.
We have a little bit of everything in the sea can. We like to touch a little bit on different styles.
So it is quite a process in the morning when Karen and I do get to work.
Rhonda: We have the awnings to put out,
the doors to open. It is definitely a unique opening. We've gotten down to about 15-20
minutes to actually put out the awnings and open the doors. However, the wind depends on
if the awnings go out or if the doors get open fully. We have pegs to keep the doors open.
So there is quite a process, but it's taken us three years but we kind of know what to do now.
Karen: We already know who does what, and it just works so well.
If the weather is beautiful, the awnings get to come out and this little boutique looks
absolutely stunning. And we hear people that are in downtown Wakaw say, “We saw the red awnings,
and we had to come over and see what was going on." And then they realized it was in a sea can!
Karen: When the doors are open,
they are in awe because they're shopping outside on a deck with the sun shining.
We chose this style of container for a few different reasons. We were looking for 40-foot for
sure, and we were looking for something reasonably cheap purely because we were a startup company.
Rhonda: First of all, we didn't even know what a sea can was until our husbands explained it to us.
So once Karen and I found out what a sea can actually was, and what a great opportunity
this could be for a retail store, we started driving around looking at these sea cans.
And my husband is very familiar with sea cans, so he took us for a drive to Channing's
location to take a look at some of the sea cans that were out there.
Rhonda: We saw a few that had doors in the front only, doors in the back.
Then we saw this one, and it was like, "What is that one? That one would be so perfect,
especially because the door's open and for the street appeal."
What we did is, we went and talked to Channing, and he was actually able to -- to do up some
drawings, some schematics on his computer, and actually map out how and what we could do with
a sea can that Karen and I just found out what -- what a possibility is for what a sea can could do.
And at that point, I think we really got excited because now the sky really is the
limit when you've got four doors, so that really got things going.
Karen: One of my favorite parts about being an owner of the SHECan Boutique, being in a
container, is all of the people who come in are so amazed by what we have done with it.
Women actually have brought their husbands,
and they won't leave because they're too busy looking at how we put this thing together.
Rhonda: It is unique, and that's what everybody comes in to see.
And we really wanted to be unique. That was one of the conversation topics we had was,
what is going to set us apart from the rest.
And Karen and I had a completely different vision of what a sea can could potentially to look at.
Then she starts in on, “We need chandeliers!”
I needed chandeliers. My whole vision of a boutique
was all around chandeliers, so how are we going to make that happen?
Karen: Channing had all of these parts in another sea can
that he said, “Hey you can use these to go with your electrical.”
He was just amazing to work with, and really got our vision going in the right direction, for sure.
Rhonda and I would absolutely work with The Container Guy again.
In fact, at the beginning of our year, we found that we had some issues with storage.
So this year, we went to The Container Guy,
and we needed storage. Channing set us up with the cutest -- we call it our baby can, because...
It's 8 x 8, I think? And she stores absolutely everything we could possibly want in there.
It has made our lives so much easier this year having our baby can in addition to our SHECan.
And, in addition to that even, no word of a lie, Channing is here today to deliver
a 20-foot sea can to our cottage for extra storage for my husband and I.
Karen: A lot of people have asked where we've got our container from.
We've said The Container Guy. They've asked where -- where he is.
We've sent them Channing's way, so definitely we would recommend.
And they always said, "We’ve heard of him, we've heard of him."
Karen: And then ladies would say,
"I know you got it from a container guy, but what's the name of the business?"
We said, "The Container Guy!"
